This is an installation accessory, not a speaker or an amplifier. The Sonance In-Wall Back Box is an enclosure designed to house a Sonos Amp inside a wall cavity, so the amplifier can live at the point of use rather than in a rack or an equipment closet. It is part of the Sonos Architectural line, which Sonos and Sonance developed together, and it is sold as a single unit in black.
The intended use case is a clean, permanent install: a whole-home audio zone, a conference or huddle room, a retail or hospitality space, or any location where an exposed Amp on a shelf is undesirable. Recessing the Amp shortens speaker runs, keeps the amplifier close to the in-wall or in-ceiling speakers it drives, and removes a visible box from the room.
Because this is a rough-in component, it is intended for installation during construction or renovation by a qualified integrator, with attention to the ventilation, clearance, and code requirements that apply to in-wall electronics in your jurisdiction. The Sonos Amp itself, speaker wire, and any low-voltage plates are purchased separately.
