Sub 4 is the full-size wireless subwoofer in the Sonos range, built to supply the low frequencies a soundbar cannot physically produce. Two 5 by 8 inch elliptical woofers are mounted face to face inside the cabinet and driven in opposition, so the forces they generate cancel rather than shake the enclosure. That layout is what allows output down to 25 Hz with minimal cabinet vibration, and it is why Sub 4 can sit on a wood floor beside furniture without introducing buzz or rattle.
Each driver has its own Class-D amplifier, and Trueplay tunes the response to the room after placement. The open-center cabinet is designed to work in two orientations: standing upright next to a media unit, or laid flat beneath a sofa or low console where it disappears entirely. Because the connection is wireless, placement is decided by acoustics rather than by where the cables reach.
Sub 4 supports 802.11ax WiFi for a more robust link in dense wireless environments, with a 10/100 Ethernet port available for hardwiring. Setup runs through the Sonos app, which assigns the sub to a room and re-crossovers the paired product automatically. Compatible partners include Arc Ultra, Arc, Beam (Gen 1 and Gen 2), Ray, Five, Era 100, and Era 300.
