The Sonance Round Retrofit Enclosure gives an in-ceiling speaker a sealed back box in rooms where the ceiling is already finished. It installs through the existing speaker cutout, so there is no need to open the ceiling or work from above, which makes it practical for remodels, condos and second-story rooms.
Acoustically, the enclosure does two jobs. It reduces sound leaking into the room, hallway or bedroom on the other side of the ceiling by up to 20 dB, and it gives every speaker in the run the same rear volume regardless of how the joist bay above it is framed, insulated or obstructed. That consistency is what keeps a multi-room ceiling system tonally matched from room to room.
The body is molded from glass-reinforced polypropylene for stiffness and long-term dimensional stability. Enclosures ship as a pair, matching the way in-ceiling speakers are typically ordered. This item is an enclosure only; speakers and grilles are purchased separately.
