At under a pound and roughly 6.6 inches tall, it fits a backpack pocket or a cupholder, and an IP67 rating means it survives dust, rain, poolside splashes, and full submersion in about three feet of water for up to 30 minutes. The rounded triangular body sits upright on a nightstand or lies flat on a table, and the drop-resistant housing is built for gear bags rather than shelves.
Inside, a dedicated tweeter and a custom racetrack midwoofer are driven by two Class-H digital amplifiers, which is what lets a speaker this small hold onto clear vocals and useful bass at outdoor volumes. Automatic Trueplay listens continuously and re-tunes the output as you move between a tiled bathroom, a patio, and an open lawn.
Roam 2 works two ways: on WiFi it behaves like any other Sonos player, joining groups, playing in stereo with a second Roam 2, and handing off to your home system; away from the network it pairs directly over Bluetooth 5.2. A dedicated Bluetooth button on the second-generation model makes switching modes a single press. Charging is over USB-C, or on the optional Roam wireless charging base.
