Ray is the entry point to Sonos home theater and the smallest soundbar in the range at 21.93 inches wide and 2.76 inches tall — short enough to sit inside most TV cabinets and console shelves without blocking the screen or the IR sensor. Four class-D amplifiers drive two tweeters and two high-efficiency midwoofers, and a proprietary bass reflex system with low-velocity ports lets it produce usable low end without port noise, which matters when a soundbar is placed in an enclosed cavity.
The acoustics are entirely forward-firing, a deliberate choice for shelf and cabinet placement where side- or up-firing drivers would just reflect off the enclosure. Connection to the TV is by optical audio, with a 1.5 m optical cable supplied, and an infrared receiver lets Ray learn and respond to the TV remote's volume commands.
Beyond TV, Ray is a full Sonos room: Wi-Fi streaming through the Sonos app, Apple AirPlay 2, and grouping with other Sonos speakers. Trueplay tuning adapts the output to the space, Speech Enhancement lifts dialogue, and Night Sound compresses loud effects for late viewing. Add a Sonos Sub and a pair of rear surrounds later to build it out.
