A small but necessary accessory. This adapter plugs into the HDMI port on a Sonos soundbar and converts it to a digital optical (TOSLINK) input, so a television that offers optical audio out but no HDMI ARC or eARC can still feed the soundbar directly.
The situation comes up more often than people expect. Older flat panels, budget sets, hospitality displays, and many commercial monitors were built with optical out as the only digital audio connection. Without this adapter there is no clean path from that TV to a Sonos soundbar. With it, you run an optical cable from the TV to the adapter, seat the adapter in the soundbar's HDMI port, and the soundbar plays TV audio normally.
Sonos lists the adapter as compatible with Arc, Beam, and Amp. It is also the part to reorder when the original that shipped with a soundbar goes missing during a move or a room reconfiguration, which is the most common reason it is bought on its own. The adapter is finished in black. Note that this is the adapter only; the optical cable is a separate item.
