The Sonos One (Gen 2) packs a tweeter, a midwoofer and two dedicated Class-D amplifiers into a cabinet small enough for a nightstand, a kitchen counter or a bookshelf. It plays considerably larger than its footprint suggests, and Trueplay tuning uses an iOS device to measure how the room reflects sound and adjust the response to suit it.
Six far-field microphones with beamforming let the speaker hear voice commands over music, with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant both supported. Apple AirPlay 2 handles direct streaming from an iPhone or iPad, and the speaker joins any Sonos system over Wi-Fi for synchronized multi-room playback or as a stereo pair. A 10/100 Ethernet port is available where wireless coverage is thin. The humidity-resistant design makes it one of the few speakers in the range suited to a bathroom or a covered outdoor space.
Two units also serve as rear surrounds for a Sonos soundbar. The Gen 2 revision added a faster processor and more memory than the original One, along with Bluetooth Low Energy for setup.
