Sonos Play sits between the pocketable Roam and the larger Move 2: small enough to carry one-handed at 2.87 pounds, but built with a three-amplifier stereo array rather than a single full-range driver. Two angled tweeters create left-right separation and a dedicated midwoofer handles mids and bass, so it holds up as a proper room speaker indoors instead of only working as a travel speaker.
It is rated IP67 — fully dustproof and able to survive immersion in one meter of water for 30 minutes — and the housing is drop-resistant, which suits poolside, bathroom, campsite and job-site use. Battery life is up to 24 hours from a 35 Wh pack, and the battery is user-replaceable, so the speaker's service life is not capped by a sealed cell.
On the home network it runs Wi-Fi 6 with AirPlay 2 and joins Sonos multiroom groups; off the network it switches to Bluetooth 5.3. Automatic Trueplay retunes the output as you move between rooms and outdoors, and voice control is built in. A charging base is included in the box; the USB-C power adapter is sold separately. The matte black finish is the more discreet of the two options.
