Era 100 is the compact Sonos speaker for everyday rooms, and the redesign over the previous One is largely acoustic. Two angled tweeters replace the single tweeter of its predecessor to produce genuine stereo separation from a single cabinet, and a larger midwoofer handles vocals and low frequencies. Three Class D amplifiers drive the array, and automatic Trueplay measures the room using the speaker's own microphones so the tuning suits a bookshelf, kitchen counter, or credenza.
Connectivity is broad for the size: WiFi 6 for multi-room playback, Bluetooth 5.3 for guests and phones, Apple AirPlay 2, and a USB-C port that accepts the Sonos Line-In Adapter for a turntable or the Combo Adapter for wired Ethernet plus line-in. Touch controls sit on top with a proper volume slider, and a hardware switch physically disconnects the microphone array when voice control is not wanted. Sonos Voice Control and Amazon Alexa are both supported. The humidity-resistant housing is made with recycled plastics, and a second unit can be added for a stereo pair or rear surrounds.
